In Loving Memory of Wanda Irene Cannon,
It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, who departed this life on June 25, 2026 at the age of 85 surrounded by her family.
Wanda Irene Cannon was born on a cattle ranch on December 5, 1940 in Quinlan, Texas to Jimmie Anderton and Bessie Nowlain Anderton. In a family of six children she was the second youngest with four brothers and one sister. Life gave her challenges at an early age; she was expected to work hard on the farm to keep it productive. As a young girl of seven years old she rode a horse to school everyday and came home to do many chores. She was no stranger to hard work and for the rest of her life she had a strong work ethic that later made her successful in owning her own business. In school she described herself as a shy, skinny girl with stringy blonde hair. Her peers looked to her for leadership. She and Joe were great athletes and captains of their basketball teams. They also could dance roller-skate. In 1956, she married Joe Lee Cannon of Quinlan, Texas. Joe asked Wanda to marry him on a baseball field. She said he wasn’t very romantic in asking, but she loved him so she said yes. She loved him so much one summer she picked cotton and bought Joe a rifle. She said picking cotton was the hardest work she had ever done. Joe and Wanda were married for forty-two years until his death in 1998. Wanda never remarried often saying he was the love of her life. Married so young Joe’s family welcomed her into the family and taught her the values and skills to be an incredible wife and mother. She often said she was so young and dumb that Susie, Faye, and Inez taught her how to cook, sew, and raise her children. She looked to these three strong women for guidance all of her life. Wanda was blessed with lots of nieces and nephews that loved her snow ice cream. Wanda worked at Texas Instruments, Western
Electric, and in 1973 opened Cannon’s Grass and Trees with her husband Joe. Landscaping was her passion and was proud to landscape houses of the Dallas Cowboys. This was a big deal because she and Faye, her sister in law, were avid fans. Wanda was so devoted to the Dallas Cowboys that her family knew if the Cowboys won, they would have an elaborate Sunday dinner, but if they lost it was fend for themselves. The family was very thankful this was the time when the Cowboys were winning and going to Super Bowls. Wanda was known for loving to fish. It didn’t matter the size of the fish; her screams and laughter could be heard all over the lake. In school she excelled in math because of this, her knack for numbers later helped her in business and her favorite hobbies were gambling, playing card games, and dominoes 42. Later in life from time to time she was known to sneak off to Louisiana to go hit the slots without her daughter's approval. Wanda had a zest for life and was full of infectious laughter. She never met a stranger, and everyone fell in love with her easy going vibrant personality. She loved deeply, and family was everything. Wanda was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose greatest joys came from being with her family and raising her children. She enjoyed spending lots of time with her grandchildren. She was known as MeMe and was always there providing happiness and fun with her elaborate Christmas decorations and gifts. Wanda and Joe were happiest when their children and grandchildren were at their home for family time and a meal on Sunday. Our mother will be greatly missed by the family she leaves behind. We know we will reminisce about the lovely memories for the years to come. May His Peace surround and hold our family so tight that there is absolutely no doubt that HE is with our family. We know our mother is a beautiful angel that is finally pain free and reunited with loved ones.
Wanda Irene Cannon is survived by her daughters Pamela Rasberry and her husband Jimmy, and Andi Jo Blake and her husband William, grandchildren Brandon Hughes (Spud) and wife Michell, Dani Bounds (Bonnie Blue) and her husband Ryder, Will Blake (Silly Willy) and his wife Whitney, and great grandchildren Jolie Hughes, Cannon Hughes, Crawford Bounds, and Presley Bounds.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jimmie Anderton and Bessie Nowlain Anderton, husband Joe Lee Cannon, son Danny Cannon, brothers Harold Anderton, Roy Anderton, Ben Anderton, Joe Anderton, and sister Dorothy Vance.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for a tribute donation to be made to The Alzheimer's Association.
