He was born May 4, 1958 in New Orleans, Louisiana to James and Burdine (Brush) McElroy. He attended Western Hills High school. Richard worked and retired from the Fort Worth Star Telegram in the Press Operations. Richard lived in Quinlan Texas at his favorite fishing spot on Lake Tawakoni. He was a gifted athlete and especially loved golf, baseball, and hockey. High school hockey injuries sidelined his hopes of professional career. He was an avid sports enthusiast and followed every sport. You could never challenge his knowledge in sports Trivia.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Erin Leigh McElroy; both of his parents, James Grady McElroy and Burdine Ellen Brush McElroy; and his niece, Margaret Noel Supple Kish.
Richard is survived by his sister, Ellen McElroy Supple, sister Noel McElroy Clark (husband Gary Clark), and his brother Fordham L. McElroy (wife Kim Massie McElroy); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He loved people and animals and was always rescuing one or the other. From time to time, he shared his home with those less fortunate, and had a special place in his heart for single mothers. He was a humble, kind man and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Richard did not wish to have a funeral service. The family had a private cremation service while his friends celebrated his life in his favorite style.
