James Ernest Shepherd was born on June 23, 1935, in Dalhart, Texas, to Velma and Ernest Shepherd. He was their first child of three sons, Larry and Don.
James passed on May 6, 2026, at his daughter Kelly’s home in Royse City, Texas, after complications from a fall. He was preceded by his parents and his brothers. James married Phyllis Brown and celebrated their 50th anniversary living in Bedford, Texas. They lived in Los Angeles, California, and Mesquite, Texas, before moving to Bedford.
He graduated high school in Wichita Falls, Texas, and attended Midwestern University there. He worked with IBM, and they both attended Los Angeles College. He worked with several computer and printer companies.
James and Phyllis were members of William C. Martin Methodist Church in Bedford. He was an extreme train enthusiast all his life. He enjoyed chasing trains to take pictures and being a member of a few model train hobby groups during his lifetime.
James is survived by his daughter, Kelly, son in law JJ DeVoy, granddaughter Summer Segura, her husband Christopher Segura, great grandson Santiago Segura, grandson Dylan DeVoy, wife Phyllis Shepherd, and nephews Palmer Shepherd and Scott Shepherd.
