Ila Faye Bridges

Ila Faye (Adkins) Bridges was a housewife for most of her life. Mom and Dad’s last stop was in Quinlan, Texas where she lived for 54 years. She passed on March 15, 2026. She lived to be 86 years old.

She is survived by her children: Paula R. McCormick, Matthew Portinga, Michael L. Portinga, Mark L. Portinga, and Don C. Bridges II; her grandchildren: Kevin Hager, Nathan Hager, Tracy Portinga Jr., David Portinga, Robert Portinga, Jacob Portinga, Chrissy (Portinga) Peersman, Jason Portinga, Katherine (Bridges) Gutknecht, Don C. Bridges III, and Toby Bridges; her great-grandchildren: Miles Hager; Alex and Brenton Hager; Isabella, Jeffrey, and William Portinga; Ethan, Christine, and Aumrifel Portinga; Harper Portinga; Evan, Nick, Alena, and Bellamy Peersman; Lauren, Hailey, and Taylor Gutknecht; and Lena Bridges; her siblings: Caroline Glore, Beverly Roupp, and Garry Adkins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don C. Bridges, Sr.; sons: Jeffrey A. Portinga and Tracy B. Portinga; parents: Albert Russell Adkins and Lucille Dollie (Mills) Adkins; siblings: Darrell Adkins, Homer Adkins, Robert Ellis Adkinds (died 3 months old), Twyla Kann, Delmar Adkins, and Shirly McAuley.

Ila was born on June 3, 1939, in Quarry, Iowa. She graduated high school in Iowa, married Raymond Portinga, during which time she was a housewife with six children. She married Don C. Bridges on April 30, 1964, in Colorado Springs, and she had one more child. Her husband was in the Army (Master Sgt. Don C. Bridges). Life was hectic, moving around with seven children, until retirement, when they settled in Quinlan, Texas.

Ila was the matriarch of the family. Her life was her husband and children.
