Fred Agnew

October 10, 1926 — January 6, 2010

Fred Gill Agnew, Jr., age 83, of Quinlan, passed away in the late evening hours of Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at the Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. He was born on October 10, 1926 in Lavon, Texas to Fred Gill and Ora Geneva (Warren) Agnew, they preceded him in death. Mr. Agnew served in the United Sates Navy as a plank owner aboard the USS Bristol during WWII. After the war, he worked in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area as an engineer. In retirement, Mr. Agnew moved to the West Tawakoni area and carried on his interests in engineering by tinkering with various projects. He was a member of the Lake Tawakoni Church of Christ and particularly enjoyed the friendships he built in the church. Mr. Agnew was most proud of being a part of the Greatest Generation . He fought in the war and helped to rebuild the country upon his return. He never lost his helping spirit and would always help a friend in need. His intuitive mind and helping hand will be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Agnew is survived by one son, Dan Agnew, and wife Karen, of Frisco; two daughters, Lorna Wong, and husband Ron, of San Antonio, and Amy Timmons, and husband Adam, of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Jason Agnew, and wife Stephanie, Rebecca Jennings, and husband Jim, Nick Wong, and Caitlin Timmons; and one sister, Marianne Gray of Mesquite. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 24 years, Arden Blanford, his second wife of 26 years, Estelle Barfield, and one sister, Dorothy Stewart. Services for Mr. Agnew will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the Lake Tawakoni Church of Christ with Pastor Randy Reagan officiating. Burial will follow at Thompson Cemetery in Lavon. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Quinlan Funeral Home.
