Erich Trapp

October 29, 1951 — April 14, 2022

Erich C. G. Trapp, 70, of Gowanda, NY, passed away peacefully at home with his wife and puppies by his side on April 14, 2022 in Quinlan, TX after a series of health events that led to a quick decline in his health.

Erich was born on October 29, 1951 in Gowanda, NY.  He was the only child of Fritz and Jean (Gray) Trapp growing up on the grounds of the Gowanda State Hospital where his father, Dr. Trapp was head of Psychiatry.

In the 1970s, Erich relocated to Dallas, Texas where he grew his circle of friends to include employees and customers of the Remember When book and comic shop.  That is where he met Lia (Faint) Trapp. He had a lifelong love of music, broadcasting, and literature. He inspired many students as Adjunct English Instructor at the University of Texas at Arlington, English Instructor at DCCCD - Mountain View College, and as English Instructor at Columbia State Community College. In March of 2008 he joined the Puppy Up Foundation and served as Secretary of the Board of Directors, contributing content to their blogs, producing the newsletters and helping with social media. After a very long courtship, Erich and Lia were married in their home in Lancaster, TX on February 24, 1996 and with their pack of puppies (and a few cats) enjoyed their time in Lancaster Texas, Columbia Tennessee, and Quinlan Texas.

Erich is survived by his wife, Lia Ruth (Faint) Trapp, step-daughter Barbara R. (Frederick) Hollowell, step-son-in-law, Darrell G. Hollowell, step-daughter Dina M. (Frederick) Bortell and grandchildren Drew F.C. and Elizabeth Hollowell, Blake S.L. Hollowell, Emily A. (Bortell) and Cody A. Farrell, and his beloved dogs Aksel and Ziva.  He leaves behind a multitude of dear friends he considered family who will surely miss him deeply.

The family will hold an informal, private memorial at a later date.
