Claude Elton “Buddy” Sheppeard, lovingly known as “Lighthaul” and “Buddy,” passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at 2:17 p.m. He was 79 years old.

Buddy is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Sherry Sheppeard. He also leaves behind his children and their families: daughter Karen E. Sheppeard; grandchildren Robert Scholmach, Tony Biggerstaff, and Alix Franco and husband Jamie Franco; and great-granddaughter Camellia Franco. Daughter Lenda M. Askren and husband Franko Askren; and twin grandsons Pvt. Calvin S. Askren, USMC, and Cody S. Askren. Son Sgt. James E. Sheppeard, USMC (Ret.), and wife Jenifer Sheppeard; and grandchildren Michael Sheppeard, Natali Schindler, Sophia Sheppeard, and Jameson Sheppeard.

Buddy was born on October 13, 1946, in Los Angeles, California, to Elton Ray Sheppeard and Mary Catherine Garvin.

A proud United States Navy veteran, Buddy spent many years working a variety of jobs throughout his life. He worked with Bullard’s Welding alongside Lee “Pop” Bullard, as well as with PVN North and Metrocrest Care Services for many years. Known by many as a true jack-of-all-trades, Buddy could fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Buddy had a deep love for fishing and never missed the chance to share one of his famous fish stories — and as he told them, the fish somehow always seemed to get a little bigger. In the evenings, he enjoyed crocheting and spent countless hours making handmade gifts for family, friends, and anyone whose life he touched.

He will be remembered for his humor, generosity, hardworking spirit, and the love he had for his family and friends. Buddy’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
